Our courses are part of a national network of programs accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).  Graduates from these programs, who pass a national exam, have achieved the highest level of competency in the field of dyslexia education.  These programs address:
  • oral language development
  • structure of written language-phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, oral and written expression, and handwriting
  • dyslexia, written language disorders, and other related disorders
  • interpretation of tests and assessments
  • use of diagnostic and prescriptive, multisensory structured language strategies to improve reading, spelling, and written expression
  • application of relevant research to instructional practice
  • Section 504 and IDEA requirements and advocacy
  • ethical standards for the profession
  • communication, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, parents, and other professionals

The Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), another vital national link, administers the exam and issues certification to graduates of IMSLEC accredited courses.

These connections provide both local and national resources for teachers of students with serious academic challenges, for administrators looking for highly competent teachers and for parents seeking qualified experts to teach their children.
